SHELBY – An N.C. Department of Transportation contractor will shift traffic to a new road alignment in Cleveland County early next week.
Crews from Ames Construction Inc. will close Borders Road between U.S. 74 Business and Oak Grove Road around 7 p.m. Friday to perform grading and paving operations before traffic is shifted to the new alignment on Monday, Aug. 31, weather permitting.
Drivers will follow a signed detour around the closure on Oak Grove Road, North Post Road and Marion Street until the road reopens after 5 p.m. Monday. Crews will allow residents access to properties along the closed route.
The new bridge and alignment will carry Borders Road over the U.S. 74 Shelby Bypass, a $284 million project designed to improve traffic flow through and around Shelby. All construction is expected to finish on the project in spring 2029.
