Detour route for the I-87 South ramp (Exit 7) closure.
RALEIGH - The North Carolina Turnpike Authority is continuing construction on the eastern portion of the Complete 540 project, Phase 2. This project will extend the Triangle Expressway (Toll N.C. 540) from the I-40/I-42/Toll N.C. 540 interchange near Garner and Clayton to the existing I-540/I-87/U.S. 64/U.S. 264 interchange in Knightdale, providing the missing link to complete the outer 540 loop around the greater Raleigh area.
The I-87 Southbound ramp (Exit 7) to access I-540 Westbound is scheduled to temporarily close to traffic overnight starting on or around August 29. The ramp will close from 12:00 a.m. to 5:00 a.m.
Drivers wishing to access I-540 Westbound will use the following detour route:
- Continue driving on I-87 Southbound past Exit 7
- Take Exit 6 onto Hodge Road
- Turn right onto Hodge Road
- Cross over the interchange bridge and turn right to take the ramp to access I-87 Northbound
- Continue driving on I-87 Northbound
- Take Exit 7 to access I-540 Westbound
Drivers may experience delays and should pay close attention when driving along the roadway.
The temporary closure and associated detour are weather dependent.
