HILLSBOROUGH – N.C. Department of Transportation crews will utilize overnight detours to repair the Interstate 40 bridge over Old N.C. 86 (Exit 261) from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. four nights this week - tonight through Thursday night.
The interstate will remain open during daytime hours. Both directions of traffic will be detoured around the bridge to the offramp at Old N.C. 86 (Exit 261) across the highway and back to I-40.
The interstate closure is needed for crews to safely repair bridge joints and is part of the I-40 widening project in Orange County, which will reduce congestion and improve travel times upon completion.
Transportation officials advise drivers to plan ahead, add extra time to overnight trips through this area, and obey all posted traffic signs.
