Editor's note: The construction start date has changed. The below release has been updated to reflect the new schedule.
BOONVILLE – An N.C. Department of Transportation contractor soon will begin improving an intersection in Yadkin County.
Over the next two years, Kemp Sigmon Construction Company Inc. crews will widen the U.S. 601 (Carolina Avenue) and N.C. 67 (Main Street) intersection to add designated turn lanes, install new traffic and pedestrian signals, upgrade sidewalks and upgrade the water and sewer systems.
Beginning Sunday, crews will use overnight closures on N.C. 67 west of U.S. 601 to begin water and sewer upgrades. Drivers will follow a signed detour around the closure using U.S. 601, Dobbins Road, Woodruff Road and N.C. 67.
Kemp Sigmon Construction, of Claremont, earned the $4.9 million contract to improve this intersection in June. The contract calls for construction to finish in early fall 2028.
