Utility Contractor to Replace Gas Line Near N.C. 184 Culvert Next Week

BANNER ELK – Overnight lane closures are scheduled for N.C. 184 beginning Sunday night as a contractor replaces a utility line moved during an N.C. Department of Transportation project.

Beginning at 6 p.m. Sunday, the utility contractor will close one lane of N.C. 184 near Dobbins Road to replace a gas line an NCDOT contractor moved during a culvert replacement project.

The road will reopen by 6 a.m. each day. Work will continue nightly over the next week until the operation is finished.

Crews from Blythe Construction are expected to finish all construction on the culvert, which carries Hanging Rock Creek under N.C. 184, by the end of the year. Hurricane Helene damaged the original structure.

Drivers are encouraged to plan ahead, allow additional travel time, remain alert and drive with caution.

For real-time travel information, visit DriveNC.gov or follow NCDOT on social media.
