Union County Roads to Receive Improvements

MONROE – Almost 19 miles of primary and secondary roads across Union County will be upgraded soon, thanks to a $6.9 million N.C. Department of Transportation contract earned by Monroe contractor TrueRock Construction LLC.

The contract includes milling, resurfacing and rebuilding shoulders on two sections of U.S. 74 East, one section of N.C. 84, and 15 segments of various secondary roads.

Contract crews will improve a section of U.S. 74 East from Wesley Chapel Stouts Road to Rocky River Road and a separate segment between Bivens Road and Edgewood Drive. In addition, part of N.C. 84 will be resurfaced between Airport Road and Willoughby Road.

These secondary roads are also planned for improvement as follows:

  • Waxhaw-Indian Trail Road from Golden Pond Road to Glenn Valley Lane
  • Old Monroe-Marshville Road from Gilboa Road to Camden Road
  • Ansonville Road from N.C. 205 to Olive Branch Road, and from Lanesboro Road to the Anson County line
  • Gray Byrum Road from N.C. 16 to Waxhaw-Marvin Road
  • Love Mill Road from E. Lawyers Road to Haigler Baucom Road
  • Boyce Road from Lathan Road to end of maintenance
  • Porter Drive from Roscoe Howley Road to end of maintenance
  • Eubanks Street from Potter Road to end of maintenance
  • Dexter Place from cul de sac to cul de sac
  • Avocet Lane from Airport Road to Dexter Place
  • Johns Forest Traffic Circle
  • Johns Forest Lane from N.C. 84 to Manchineel Lane
  • Doctor Blair Road from Hasty Road to Gilboa Road

Crews can begin operations as early as November, with all work to be completed by spring of 2028.

The contract limits lane closures on U.S. 74 East to off-peak travel times (midday and overnight.) Road work restrictions will be in place for holidays, holiday weekends, and any unexpected events that may generate high traffic volumes.
