Culvert Installation Scheduled for Carteret County Road

​BEAUFORT – The N.C. Department of Transportation will close a section of N.C. 101​ in Carteret County for about three months. 

N.C. 101 will be closed from south of West Beaufort Road to the intersection with Live Oak Street beginning March 1. Crews will install a new culvert and sanitary sewer line as part of the roundabout project in Beaufort. 

This portion of N.C. 101 is expected to reopen by late May. Local traffic can detour around the closure using the following routes: 

  • ​Drivers traveling east on U.S. 70 wanting to access N.C. 101 should exit U.S. 70 onto Turner Street, turn left onto Cedar Street, then turn left onto Live Oak Street.
  • Drivers traveling west on U.S. 70 should exit onto Live Oak Street toward N.C. 101.

Access to the Huntley Plaza shopping center via N.C. 101 will be maintained for the duration of the closure. 

Motorists are encouraged to use caution in the area, follow posted detour signs and allow additional travel time.
