KITTY HAWK – Today the N.C. Department
of Transportation reopened the eastbound side of the Wright Memorial Bridge
between Currituck and Dare counties on U.S. Highway 158. However, single lane
closures on both sides of the bridge will continue for the next few days as
crews complete lane striping work. The bridge will be completely open for all
weekend summer traffic no later than Monday, May 14.
On weekdays (Mondays-Thursdays) during the summer months, motorists
can expect periodic single-lane closures on the eastbound side of the bridge
while contractors complete maintenance on the bridge’s substructure.
The work is part of an overall $21 million project to refurbish the
Wright Memorial Bridge. The project is funded by an initiative designed to
improve the conditions and increase the lifespans of high value bridges across
the state.
