Railroad Work in Montgomery County to Require N.C. 24/27 Detour

BISCOE – The Aberdeen Carolina & Western Railway Co. has informed the N.C. Department of Transportation it must close a busy intersection in downtown Biscoe early next month to improve its rail crossing.

The company plans to close its crossing over West Main Street (N.C. 24/27), adjacent to the road’s intersection with North and South Main streets, which are also U.S. 220 Alternate.

The closure is scheduled to start Tuesday, May 1, and, weather permitting, the roadway will reopen by Friday of that week.

The signed detour will depend on which direction traffic is traveling:

  • Motorists headed west on N.C. 24/27 will need to go north on U.S. 220 Alternate, turn left on Airport Road, left onto Clayola Drive, and left onto Lambert Drive to get back onto N.C. 24/27.
  • Eastbound traffic will turn right onto Mill Street, then left onto South Main Street (U.S. 220 Alternate) and right on East Main Street (N.C. 24/27).
