Railroad crossing work to require road closures in Nash County

ROCKY MOUNT – Carolina Coastal Railroad has notified the N.C. Department of Transportation of plans to temporarily close two rail crossings in Nash County for maintenance next week.

The first closure will be at the South Old Carriage Road crossing, about two-tenths of a mile north of Nash Central High School, beginning at 8 a.m. Tuesday, March 13. The railroad hopes to complete the maintenance and reopen South Old Carriage Road by 5 p.m., Wednesday, March 14. Traffic should take Eastern Avenue, Old Spring Hope and Oak Level roads to avoid the closure.

The railroad plans to close the South Church Street (U.S. 301 Business) crossing, immediately north of West Raleigh Boulevard in Rocky Mount, at 7 a.m. March 14. The road is expected to reopen by the following afternoon.
