RODANTHE – With the peak of the summer
travel season just around the corner, N.C. Department of Transportation crews
today changed out seasonal speed limit signs along N.C. Highway 12 in several
areas of Currituck and Dare counties.
The speed limits in areas through the tri-villages of Rodanthe,
Waves and Salvo, as well as Duck, Corolla and Frisco, drop from 45 to 35 m.p.h.
to account for more vehicle and pedestrian traffic during the summer months.
“This is the time of year when the population of the Outer Banks
increases dramatically,” said NCDOT Division Engineer Jerry Jennings. “Motorists
need to drive with caution, obey all posted speed limits and be especially
mindful of vehicle, bicycle and pedestrian traffic on the roadways.”
The seasonal speed limits will remain in effect until Sept. 15.
