The N.C. Department of Transportation, in cooperation with the Federal Highway Administration, completed an
environmental assessment of the proposed improvements to Interstate 440 in June 2017. The assessment contains a summary of the impacts and benefits associated with the preliminary project designs – referred to as detailed study alternatives.
NCDOT held an
open house and public hearing on Aug. 8, 2017, to give the public an opportunity to ask questions and to comment on the
design maps and environmental assessment.
The project team reviewed feedback and explored options to incorporate and address concerns where and when it was feasible.
This project was awarded to the Lane Construction Corporation on Oct. 22, 2018.
A preconstruction open house took place on Aug. 1, 2019. Project team members and representatives of the Lane Construction design-build team were available to discuss the project and answer questions.
