Project OverviewConstruction is complete on three projects to widen sections of Eastern Avenue, North Old Carriage Road, and Sunset Avenue between Nashville and Rocky Mount.
Additionally, an N.C. Department of Transportation contractor widened the Sunset Avenue bridge over Interstate 95 and converted it into an interchange with on and off ramps. The new interchange was been a long-sought project by local officials and business leaders in Nash County.
The projects, which were awarded by NCDOT under two contracts, will ease congestion, improve mobility and safety for drivers and pedestrians and plan for future growth in traffic.
This is one of several long-term projects that would upgrade or widen I-95 in North Carolina.
Project Funding
The projects are listed as Projects R-5720, U-5996 and U-5026 in the N.C. Department of Transportation’s State Transportation Improvement Program and have a combined estimated funding of $121.8 million.
