Planning and development are under way on proposed plans to widen stretches of Eastern Avenue, North Old Carriage Road and Sunset Avenue between Nashville and Rocky Mount.
Additionally, there is another proposed plan to convert the Sunset Avenue bridge over Interstate 95 into a new interchange – a long-sought project by local officials and business leaders in Nash County.
The projects would ease congestion, improve safety for drivers and pedestrians and plan for expected growth in traffic.
This is one of several long-term projects that would upgrade or widen I-95 in North Carolina.
The projects are listed as Projects R-5720, U-5996 and U-5026 in the N.C. Department of Transportation’s State Transportation Improvement Program and have a combined estimated funding of $121.8 million.
