NCDOT is developing feasibility studies that will include an analysis of potential short-term and long-term options for each project area and will also examine each project's potential environmental impacts and preliminary project costs.

• The N.C. 12 from Avon to Buxton feasibility study was completed in December 2015.
• The N.C. 12 Hatteras Village feasibility study was completed in February 2016.
• The N.C. 12 Ocracok​e Island "Hot Spot" feasibility study was completed in December 2016.

The feasibility studies will assist NCDOT in appropriating funds and scheduling the projects in the State Transportation Improvement Plan. Once the projects are scheduled, NCDOT will begin the full project development process.
