The proposed plan by the N.C. Department of Transportation would widen U.S. 220 from four lanes to a six-lane (three lanes on each side), median divided road with sidewalks on both sides of the roadway.
The plan would also include improving intersections at New Garden Road, Brassfield Road and Costwold Avenue. Median breaks are also proposed to allow left turns at several intersections.
