The N.C. Department of Transportation is planning to upgrade the high-volume intersection of U.S. 401 at Ligon Mill Road and Mitchell Mill Road in Raleigh to reduce congestion and improve traffic in the area. Due to the increase in traffic at the intersection of U.S. 401 and Perry Creek Road, this project has been expanded to include improvements to this intersection.
Approximately 59,800 vehicles pass through this area of U.S. 401 every day resulting in delays and congestion. By 2040, traffic will increase to approximately 93,200 vehicles per day at these intersections.
With U.S. 401 being an important link between Fayetteville, Lillington and Raleigh and the population increasing in the area, traffic conditions will only get worse if the intersection is not improved to handle the increased traffic demands.
This project is listed as Project U-5748 in the N.C. Department of Transportation's State Transportation Improvement Program and is estimated to cost $37.34 million.
