U.S. 401/Ligon Mill Road/Mitchell Mill Road Intersection

Project Overview & Purpose

The N.C. Department of Transportation is planning to upgrade the high-volume intersection of U.S. 401 at Ligon Mill Road and Mitchell Mill Road in Raleigh to reduce congestion and improve traffic in the area.

Approximately 59,800 vehicles pass through the intersection every day, resulting in delays and congestion. By 2040, traffic will increase to approximately 93,200 vehicles per day.

With U.S. 401 being an important link between Fayetteville, Lillington and Raleigh and the population increasing in the area, traffic conditions will only get worse if the intersection is not improved to handle the increased traffic demands.
