Traffic Alert No. 3 - July 13-22, 2026

The N.C. Department of Transportation will conduct overnight lane closures on the Causeway Drive (U.S. 76) bridge over Banks Channel beginning tonight. Contract crews will perform drilling operations through the bridge deck for testing.

Crews will close both eastbound lanes of Causeway Drive nightly from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m., Monday through Friday. Drilling operations are expected to be completed by July 22.

Traffic Alert No. 2 - July 2, 2026

Utility relocation for the bridge on West Salisbury Street over Lees Cut will begin soon, and with that a small number of trees and shrubs in the project area will need to be removed.

Beginning Monday, July 6, be aware that you will see roadside crews on the westbound side of West Salisbury Street between the two bridges and near Pelican Drive. The work will take place on NCDOT right-of-way, meaning that private property is not needed to accomplish it. The work is expected to take about a week.

While no lane closures are expected, slow down and use caution as crews will be working directly next to the roadway.

We understand that maintaining the natural trees and foliage is an important part of the character and charm of the area. After much coordination with utility providers, unfortunately, utility relocations cannot be accomplished without the removal of these trees and shrubs. NCDOT and the Town of Wrightsville Beach are working on a solution to replace the trees and maintain the natural beauty.

Utility relocation involves moving services such as power lines, telecommunications, water, sewer, etc. so services can be maintained throughout bridge construction. It is a necessary step for every transportation project.

We appreciate your understanding.
