Paul Tine DMV Commissioner

In May 2025, Paul Tine was appointed as commissioner of the N.C. Division of Motor Vehicles. 

In this role, Tine oversees the daily operations of NCDMV, including vehicle registrations, driver licenses, and vehicle safety and emissions inspections. He will also work to improve customer satisfaction, staffing challenges and wait times at all DMV offices.

Tine, owner of Midgett Insurance Agency in Kitty Hawk, previously served two terms in the N.C. House of Representatives from 2013 to 2017. 

During his tenure at the General Assembly, Tine wrote a strategic planning process for the N.C. Department of Transportation that became law and co-wrote legislation to create the N.C. Department of Information Technology. 

Tine co-chaired the Transportation Appropriations Committee and served on the Joint Transportation Oversight Committee. He has also served on the Board of Trustees of Elizabeth City State University.

Tine has a bachelor's degree in English from James Madison University and an MBA from the Kenan-Flagler Business School at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. 

Tine and his wife, Whitney, reside in Dare County, with their two sons.
