As the Human Resources director for the N.C. Department of Transportation, Amanda Olive oversees the recruitment and retention of the department’s approximately 9,000 employees. She is responsible for defining, developing, planning, directing, implementing and assessing all facets of Human Resources as well as Safety and Risk Management Program activities for NCDOT.
Olive has over 21 years with NCDOT. She began her career in 1997 in the Classification and Compensation Unit and has held various roles in Human Resources. She has served the Classification and Compensation Unit as an analyst, the assistant manager and the manager, the Human Resources Operations manager, and the Human Resources Policy manager.
Most recently, Olive served as the Human Resources deputy director. In this role, she oversaw the Salary Administration and Qualification Review Unit, VIP Unit, Talent Management Unit, Classification and Compensation Unit, and the Division of Motor Vehicles’ Human Resources Office. Olive has always had a deep-rooted passion for ensuring NCDOT is recruiting and retaining the best workforce possible. She enjoys initiatives and projects that allow Human Resources to achieve this goal while taking unique and innovative approaches.
Olive received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science from N.C. State University and a Master of Business Administration from Pfeiffer University.
She lives on a working family farm in Smithfield. The farm has been in the Olive family since the 1840s.
