As senior director for the N.C. Department of Transportation’s Office of Economic Opportunity and Compliance and the HBCU Outreach Program, Tunya Smith leads the agency’s efforts to promote economic opportunities, growth and engagement in communities statewide. She ensures stakeholders have access and opportunities to participate in transportation programs.
Smith has extensive experience in policy and program development, advocacy and economic development through service spanning over two decades.
Joining NCDOT in May 2018, Smith has led the agency’s civil rights programs and worked as a program and data administrator for the Technical Services Division, which supports project delivery from concept through construction.
Smith holds both a master’s and bachelor’s degree in business administration and continues to promote and advance the agency’s economic opportunity and workforce development initiatives. She lives in Raleigh, is happily married and a proud mom of twin teenage boys.
