I-40 West Exit to Garner to Close Overnight This Week

GARNER – N.C. Department of Transportation contractors are planning to close the loop from Interstate 40 West to U.S. 70 West (Exit 306A) for three nights this week as part of the widening project from Southeast Raleigh to Clayton.

On Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, crews plan to close the loop from 11 p.m. until 5 a.m. the next day to safely demolish the old I-40 bridge over U.S. 70 Business.

Traffic was shifted onto the new bridge in October.

A detour will send drivers up to Jones Sausage Road (Exit 303) to turn around and access U.S. 70 West toward Garner and the White Oak Crossing shopping center.

Drivers should allow extra time for the detour and pay extra attention while driving through the work zone.
