Closures Planned for I-40/I-440 Junction in Southeast Raleigh

RALEIGH – N.C. Department of Transportation contractors are planning several nightly closures at the junction of Interstates 40 and 440 for bridge demolition as part of the widening project from Southeast Raleigh to Clayton.

Beginning Sunday, three weeks of nightly closures are planned for I-40 West at the split and for the I-40 East exit to I-440 West. The closures will be Sunday through Thursday, between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m. the next day.

These closures will allow for the safe demolition of the next section of the old flyover bridge from I-440 East to I-40 East. The demolition of the preceding section of the old flyover bridge was completed on Feb. 8.

The detour for I-40 West will direct drivers to take Exit 301 for I-440 West to Poole Road (Exit 15) to turn around and then merge onto I-40 West.

The detour for I-40 East to I-440 West will lead drivers to Jones Sausage Road (Exit 303) to turn around and then access I-440 West.

Drivers should allow extra time for the detours and pay extra attention while driving through the work zone.
