RALEIGH – N.C. Department of Transportation contractors are planning several nightly closures at the junction of Interstates 40 and 440 for bridge demolition as part of the
widening project from Southeast Raleigh to Clayton.
Beginning tonight, two weeks of nightly closures are planned for I-40 East at the split. The closures will be Monday through Thursday this week and Monday through Friday next week, between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m. the next day.
These closures will allow for the safe demolition of the last section of the old flyover bridge from I-440 East to I-40 East. The demolition of the first section of the old flyover bridge was completed in February. The middle section was completed last week.
The detour will direct drivers to take Exit 301 for I-440 West to Poole Road (Exit 15) to turn around and then merge onto I-40 East.
Drivers should allow extra time for the detour and pay extra attention while driving through the work zone.
