WILSON’S MILLS – The ongoing construction on U.S. 70 in Wilson’s Mills will require a section of Bear Farm Road to close for about a month.
The portion of the road between U.S. 70 and the railroad tracks is scheduled to be closed to through traffic from
Feb. 6-March 6.
The signed detour will include Uzzle Pond Road, Wilson’s Mills Road and Main Street. Drivers should slow down near the work site and factor the longer commuter using the detour.
While closed, contractors for the N.C. Department of Transportation will upgrade Bear Farm Road’s drainage and pavement; this road will become a future service road.
A contractor is upgrading a 4.7-mile section of U.S. 70 through Wilson’s Mills to interstate standards, necessitating the conversion of the highway at Swift Creek Road and at Wilson’s Mills Road to become grade-separated with bridges, ramps or loops.
The project began in 2021 and is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2024. For more information, visit
