In Case You Missed It: The Spring Litter Sweep is Almost Here!

RALEIGH - Did you know that there are 80,000 miles of state-maintained roads in North Carolina?

Even with crews and contractors from the N.C. Department of Transportation working almost every day of the year, we are still fighting to keep our roadsides litter free.

In 2023, we picked up more than 11 million pounds of litter from roadsides and so far this year we've collected 2.2 million pounds of litter. The simple truth is we can't keep up with the amount of litter that gets created.  This is where we need your help! Join us in keeping North Carolina's roadsides litter free during the Spring Litter Sweep!

People interested in volunteering during the Spring Litter Sweep (April 13-27) can request gloves, safety vests and bags from their local county maintenance offices. Need help finding a road to clean? Simply reach out to your local litter management coordinator and they can help you get started.

Don't forget to report your pickup online. In the online form, type “NSLKC" as the pickup key.

Check out the Litter Sweep webpage for additional details.
