Brunswick County Widening Project Requires Overnight Closures

SOUTHPORT – This week, N.C. 211 at Long Beach Road will require short overnight closures while a crane is used to set bridge girders over the highway.

The closures will last up to 30 minutes and occur periodically between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m. on April 9 and April 10. Law enforcement with flashing lights will be assisting in these closures for safety and visibility.

In addition, two of four lanes on N.C. 211 in this vicinity will be closed from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. on these same two nights for the girder installations.

Drivers who must use this route during these hours should be prepared for brief delays and highway stoppages, and proceed carefully through this work zone.

The girders are part of the new Long Beach Road bridge over N.C. 211 associated with a $217 million contract awarded in 2021 to widen 7.2 miles of N.C. 211 northwest of Southport. People may find more information about this project on this NCDOT webpage.
