RALEIGH – Buckling your seatbelt is a vital component of driving safely, and local law enforcement will be out over the next two weeks to make sure you do.
The Governor’s Highway Safety Program’s “Memorial Day Click It or Ticket” campaign, which launched today and will continue through June 1, is an annual statewide campaign that promotes safe driving by buckling your seat belt.
“Never hesitate to buckle your seatbelt—it could be the difference between life and death,” said GHSP Director Mark Ezzell. “It’s too risky to take that chance.
In addition to public outreach, there will be increased law enforcement patrols throughout the entire campaign to ensure compliance with the N.C. Seat Belt Law.
In 2023, 492 unbuckled drivers were killed in N.C. car crashes, according to the North Carolina 2023 Traffic Crash Facts report. So far this year, 158 unbelted passengers or drivers died in crashes.
