RALEIGH - The North Carolina Turnpike Authority (NCTA) is continuing project development efforts for the Mid-Currituck Bridge Project. To collect up-to-date traffic volumes, NCTA will install traffic counting devices on the overhead sign located on U.S. 158 near the Duck Woods Drive intersection.
The purpose of these devices is to gather traffic data on the number of vehicles entering the Outer Banks that are currently equipped with toll payment transponders. This information will be used for the NCTA's traffic and usage forecast models, which will help in planning and managing transportation needs.
The installation is scheduled to begin on or around Wednesday, May 21 at 9:00 AM. To facilitate the safe installation, the contractor will need to temporarily close one lane of U.S. 158 at a time. Work will proceed lane by lane, ensuring that at least one lane remains open to traffic at all times. A traffic monitoring device will be installed in each lane. The work is expected to be complete by Thursday morning but is subject to change and weather dependent.
Motorists traveling on U.S. 158 near Duck Woods Drive during the installation are advised to be aware of the lane closures, exercise caution and expect potential minor delays.
