RALEIGH - The North Carolina Turnpike Authority is continuing construction activities on the extension of the Triangle Expressway (Toll N.C. 540) from N.C. 55 Bypass to Interstate 40. Toll N.C. 540 Eastbound and Westbound Exit 39 to access N.C. 50/Benson Highway and Toll N.C. 540 Eastbound and Westbound Exit 43 to access Old Stage Road are scheduled to temporarily close to traffic overnight on or around the night of October 14.
Toll N.C. 540 Westbound Exit 39 will temporarily close from 10:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m., Toll N.C. 540 Westbound Exit 43 will temporarily close from 11:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m., Toll N.C. 540 Eastbound Exit 43 will temporarily close from 1:00 a.m. to 2:00 a.m. and Toll N.C. 540 Eastbound Exit 39 will temporarily close from 2:30 a.m. to 3:30 a.m.
Drivers may experience delays and should pay close attention when driving along the posted detour route. Drivers are strongly encouraged to avoid the area, if possible. If drivers must be in the area, they are advised to take the detour route by following signs along the roadway.
Drivers wishing to access N.C. 50/Benson Highway from Toll N.C. 540 Westbound will use the following detour route:
- Continue driving west on Toll N.C. 540
- Take Exit 43 (Old Stage Road)
- Turn right onto Old Stage Road
- Turn right onto Ten Ten Road
- Continue to N.C. 50/Benson Highway
Drivers wishing to access Old Stage Road from Toll N.C. 540 Westbound will use the following detour route:
- Continue driving west on Toll N.C. 540
- Take Exit 45 to U.S. 401
- Turn right onto U.S. 401
- Turn right onto Ten Ten Road
- Continue to Old Stage Road
Drivers wishing to access Old Stage Road from Toll N.C. 540 Eastbound will use the following detour route:
- Continue driving east on Toll N.C. 540
- Take Exit 39 (N.C. 50/Benson Highway)
- Turn left onto N.C. 50/Benson Highway
- Turn left onto Ten Ten Road
- Continue to Old Stage Road
Drivers wishing to access N.C. 50/Benson Highway from Toll N.C. 540 Eastbound will use the following detour route:
- Continue driving east on Toll N.C. 540
- Take Exit 36 (I-40)
- Travel east on I-40
- Take Exit 312 (N.C. 42)
- Turn right onto N.C. 42
- Turn right on Cleveland Road
- Continue to N.C. 50/Benson Highway
