RUFFIN – Contractors for the N.C. Department of Transportation will conduct closures of a stretch of U.S. 29 and the U.S. 29 Business bridge over U.S. 29 so crews can safely conduct bridge demolition work as part of a replacement project.
Beginning tonight at 6 p.m., U.S. 29 will close nightly in both directions between mile markers 160 and 161, weather permitting. Work will occur each night beginning at 9 p.m. and finishing at 6 a.m. the following morning. The nightly closures are scheduled to continue through March 20.
The U.S. 29 Business bridge over U.S. 29 will also close starting at 9 a.m. on March 9. This closure will remain in place until mid-summer 2027, when construction of the new bridge is scheduled to be completed.
