Bridge Replacement Planned for Beaufort County

CHOCOWINITY – The N.C. Department of Transportation will replace a 68-year-old Beaufort County bridge beginning next week.

The bridge over Herring Run on Core Point Road will be replaced to support the nearby Blounts Creek bridge replacement project on Mouth of the Creek Road. The Core Point Road bridge replacement is necessary to ensure construction materials are safely delivered to the Blounts Creek project site.

A section of Core Point Road will be closed for several months during construction, beginning April 6. During this time, most motorists will detour via Herring Run Road and N.C. 33. Truck drivers should detour via Minor Run Road to Durham Creek Road.

The new bridge on Core Point Road is expected to open to traffic in late September.

Drivers should use caution when traveling near the area and seek alternate routes to avoid travel delays.
