Planning and development are underway on a proposed project to widen approximately 2.3 miles of Allen Road from a two-lane roadway to a four-lane, median-divided roadway from Stantonsburg Road to Dickinson Avenue Extension (U.S. 13) in Greenville.
Proposed improvements include upgrading the intersections at Allen and Stantonsburg roads and Allen Road and Dickinson Avenue Extension as well as installing bicycle lanes and possibly sidewalks.
The proposed project would improve traffic flow and safety on Allen Road in the area. The roadway is nearing its capacity, meaning that it can no longer handle the amount of traffic that uses the roadway. The project would also help provide for the traffic growth that is expected to occur along the project corridor.
This project is listed as Project U-5875 in the
N.C. Department of Transportation's State Transportation Improvement Program and is funded for $25.4 million. The cost is estimated and subject to change.
