In March 2011, the city of Raleigh completed a planning study, entitled Vision for the Valley, that identified the critical transportation needs in the Crabtree Valley area
As a result of the planning study, a proposed project was later included in the State Transportation Improvement Program, the N.C. Department of Transportation’s 10-year plan for funding and scheduling construction projects.
Initial planning studies for the project began in late 2017.
