The proposed Wadesboro Bypass project is included in the N.C. Department of Transportation's N.C. Strategic Transportation Corridors: Vision Plan for Corridor U document, which was completed in 2020.
Feasibility studies for the proposed Wadesboro Bypass project were completed for R-5878A (from U.S. 74 west of Wadesboro to U.S. 74 east of Wadesboro) and R-5878B (from U.S. 52 north of Wadesboro to U.S. 74 east of Wadesboro) in 2018. However, a feasibility study was also completed for the upgrade of U.S. 74 to a freeway from Monroe to Rockingham in 2003.
