Motorists drive on a road that was improved with funds from the Powell Bill Program. The project included resurfacing of the road as well as the addition of a sidewalk.
The N.C. Department of Transportation administers the Powell Bill program providing state street aid to qualified, incorporated municipalities within North Carolina.
This funding is used to resurface municipal streets as well as to maintain, repair, build or widen streets, bridges and drainage areas. The Powell Bill can also help municipalities with funds to plan, build and maintain bicycle paths. These projects must fall within a municipal corporate limit to be eligible.
The program is governed by
N.C. G.S. 136-41 through 136-41.4, and managed by NCDOT’s Powell Bill Unit.
