Two Major Wake County Intersections to be Updated

RALEIGH – The N.C. Department of Transportation awarded a $45.3 million contract this summer to improve U.S. 401 intersections at Ligon Mill/Mitchell Mill roads and at Perry Creek Road in north Raleigh.

Conti Civil LLC of Edison, N.J. earned the contract, which includes significant improvements along this corridor.

Some of the highlights include:

  • Realigning Ligon Mill Road to cross U.S. 401 just north of its current location.
  • Reconfiguring the existing Mitchell Mill Road intersection with U.S. 401 as a continuous-flow intersection.
  • Transforming Perry Creek Road at U.S. 401 into a Reduced Conflict Intersection.
  • Widening existing bridges over the Neuse River, accommodating an additional lane and 10-foot multi-use path

Construction is expected to begin mid-October and is scheduled for completion in 2027.
