​Plans to improve Dickinson Avenue began in 2013 and public meetings were held in February and December 2014.
Development on the Dickinson Avenue project was suspended from 2019 to 2021 due to N.C. Department of Transportation funding constraints and to allow nearby projects (10th Street Connector and the city of Greenville's Town Creek Culvert project) to be completed in order to minimize traffic in Uptown Greenville.
Construction began in September 2022 and was paused in April 2023 when the original contractor left the project. NCDOT has secured a new contractor who will begin work in March 2024.
