Improvements along U.S. 64 in Apex and Cary stem from several N.C. Department of Transportation studies focused on enhancing mobility and safety, including the 2011 U.S. 64 Chatham-Wake County Planning Study (Phase IIA). This study recommended improvements along U.S. 64 from U.S. 64 Business, just east of Pittsboro, to U.S. 1 in Cary.
The 2011 U.S. 64 Planning Study also formed the basis for the U.S. 64 improvement recommendations incorporated into the Capital Area Metropolitan Planning Organization’s
Regional Metropolitan Transportation Plan and comprehensive transportation plans for the towns of
Apex and
Cary.
Current Environmental & Design Study
A preferred alternative was selected and an Environmental Document was completed in August 2019. Final designs are currently being developed.
