City & County Resources

​​​​​​​​​​​​​​The N.C. Department of Transportation's Traffic Safety Unit regularly compiles statistics on crashes for cities and counties as well as metropolitan planning organizations (MPOs) and rural planning organizations (RPOs).

These areawide statistics are intended to assist these agencies in planning and improving their roadway system and tracking their progress toward better road safety.

County RankingRanking of counties for the most recent year. This ranking based on several factors including reported crashes, crash severity, crash rates based on population, registered vehicles and estimated vehicle miles traveled.
City Rankings (population less than 10,000)Ranking of cities with population less than 10,000 for the most recent year. This ranking is based on several factors including reported crashes, crash severity and crash rates based on population.
City Rankings (population more than 10,000)Ranking of cities with population greater than 10,000 for the most recent year. This ranking is based on several factors including reported crashes, crash severity and crash rates based on population.
County Crash ProfilesExpand the listing for “Crash Type: County Crash Profiles" on this page to see a profile of crashes for each county by year.
