UNC Highway Safety Research Center
The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Highway Safety Research Center (HSRC) is leading this effort for the N.C. Department of Transportation. For more than 50 years, HSRC has been working hard to help shape the field of transportation safety. HSRC’s mission is to improve the safety, security, access and efficiency of all surface transportation modes through a balanced, interdisciplinary program of research, evaluation and information dissemination. The center has a dynamic team of researchers and staff with extensive expertise in a broad range of disciplines. The center works across many fields of study and research including: computer science, engineering, epidemiology, information and library science, planning, psychology, public health, public information, sociology, and statistics.
HSRC will be supported on this project by the UNC Information Technology Services and Vanasse Hangen Brustlin.
UNC Information Technology Services
UNC Information Technology Services (ITS) leads UNC-Chapel Hill in planning, implementing and maintaining the university’s technology services. ITS’ mission is to accelerate the university’s academic and research pursuits by providing accessible, reliable, efficient, scalable and innovative technologies. ITS is serving as the primary support regarding the security and infrastructure needs for the system.
Vanasse Hangen Brustlin
Vanasse Hangen Brustlin (VHB) provides integrated transportation planning, land development, environmental, planning and design and applied technology services. VHB partners with public and private clients in the transportation, real estate, institution and energy industries, as well as federal, state and local governments. VHB’s team includes technology and security specialists, GIS professionals, analysts and software engineers, architects, data scientists, and highway safety specialists with collective knowledge, practical experience and technical excellence in highway safety data collection, management, integration, and analysis. VHB is leading the design of the system.
N.C. Department of Transportation
The N.C. Department of Transportation has assembled a Technical Oversight Committee from various key stakeholders across the organization. These include: Crash Applications, IT Architecture, IT Security, GIS, Traffic Safety and Traffic Records. The Technical Oversight Committee will provide guidance, feedback and approvals throughout the course of the project.
The N.C. Department of Information Technology-Transportation manages the project on behalf of the NCDOT and leads the Technical Oversight Committee.
