Applying to the TEA Program

Qualified recent college graduates seeking entry-level work in civil, environmental, electrical, mechanical, chemical, aerospace or biological engineering who thrive on a challenge and enjoy connecting with people should apply.

Eligibility Requirements

To be eligible for the TEA Program, applicants must have a Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an appropriately accredited institution. Examples of engineering disciplines that are accepted include:

  • Civil engineering
  • Civil engineering technology
  • Architectural engineering
  • Mechanical engineering
  • Chemical engineering
  • Surveying engineering and management
  • Electrical engineering
  • Geomatics engineering
  • Biological and agricultural engineering
  • Biosystems engineering
  • Environmental engineering
  • Systems engineering

Other related four-year engineering degrees will be reviewed and may be accepted on a case-by-case basis. 

Additional Requirements

  • Have a minimum 2.3 grade point average
  • Be a recent college graduate (within two years)
  • Be flexible in job locations

Compensation & Benefits

Entry level salary for associates is $70,000. Upon successful completion of the 18-month program, Associates may be eligible to receive a salary of $76,846​​ on an annualized basis.

Interested applicants must apply online through the N.C. Office of State Human Resources website for the Engineer I – Trainee position​.

Applicants must attach a college transcript​​. Applications without a transcript will not be considered.
