The N.C. Department of Transportation proposes upgrading U.S. 70 to interstate standards from the proposed Havelock Bypass in Craven County to east of Thurman Road. This project is one of several that NCDOT is working on to improve the U.S. 70 Corridor, one of the primary east-west thoroughfares across eastern North Carolina. The work would improve regional mobility, assist economic development in primarily rural areas, provide a closer interstate connection to the Port of Morehead City, benefit military interconnectivity, and improve safety by reducing intersections.

There will not be an in-person public meeting for the U.S. 70 upgrade from Havelock Bypass to east of Thurman Road project at this time because of COVID-19 restrictions. The public is invited to view videos and maps detailing the proposal.

The videos provide:

  • An overview of the project.
  • A narrated visualization about the project area.
  • Information on how to navigate project maps showing the design improvements and project details.
