Voter Registration Application

Registration Repair Project

If you received a notice from the Board of Elections that your voter registration is missing a driver’s license number or the last four digits of your social security number, you can update your registration using the NCDMV’s online voter registration  featureThat information will be added to your voter registration.

For more information, go to Registration Repair on the State Board’s website.

If you are eligible to vote in North Carolina, you may apply to register to vote online. Click the button below to complete a new voter registration application or update your existing voter registration. Updated information will apply only to your voter registration, not any other NCDMV service.

To see if you are registered to vote and view details of your registration, use the State Board of Elections’ Voter Search tool.

Please note: There is no fee for voter registration through this online service, and you do not need to create an account. Select “Continue as a guest” to bypass creating an account.

Go to Voter Registration Application

When you complete your application, it is sent to the N.C. State Board of Elections, which handles voter registrations.  If there are any issues with the application or if more information is needed, your county board of elections will contact you to complete the process.

Voter registration applications submitted fewer than 25 days before an election will not be processed until after the election. You may still register to vote in person using same-day registration in your county during the early voting period. For more information, visit Vote Early in Person on the State Board’s website.

Attention: Photo ID is required when voting in all North Carolina elections. Learn more at Voter ID on the State Board's website.

This service is offered through a partnership between the N.C. Division of Motor Vehicles and the N.C. State Board of Elections.

Registering to Vote via Self-Service Kiosks

You may complete a voter registration application, or update you current voter registration, at a kiosk during a driver license/ID transaction. You cannot use a kiosk to complete a voter registration application without also completing a driver license/ID transaction.
