What do I need to do if I am moving within North Carolina?
Within 60 days of moving within North Carolina, you must update your physical address with the N.C. Division of Motor Vehicles and get a replacement license or ID.
Effective Oct. 1, 2026, you will not need to get a replacement registration card because North Carolina has moved to an all-electronic vehicle registration system and eliminated the requirement for license plate stickers and printed registration cards.
Address updates for valid digital vehicle registrations are completed when you update your driver license information online.
