This week on NCDOT Now: State and federal transportation officials gathered at the North Carolina State Fairgrounds Tuesday to host the kickoff of National Work Zone Awareness Week. Also, in another effort to help maintain safety in work zones, NCDOT is working with off-duty law enforcement officers to increase drivers’ awareness.

This week on NCDOT Now: National Work Zone Awareness Week begins on Monday, April 21. Also, NCDOT, alongside state law enforcement officials and family members, recently gathered to dedicate the bridge on N.C. 73 over Long Creek at Long Lake in Albemarle to Patrolman Paul Smith. The N.C. Ferry Division has been actively working to hire employees to meet the increased ferry transportation demand for the upcoming summer season.

The N.C. Department of Transportation will hold a combined public meeting and public hearing for the proposed amendment of the New River State Park Dedicated Nature Preserve in Ashe County.

In September 2024, Hurricane Helene devastated Western North Carolina. Six months later, countless hours have gone into recovery efforts. Communities have been reconnected and the task to rebuild infrastructure continues.
